PSYCHOSOPHY is a neologism coined in 1991 (Presutti, 1991) to distinguish this discipline from the field of PSYCHOLOGY and from the esoteric and animistic doctrines of PSYCHISM.
The use of PsychoLogia or PsychoSophia does not merely imply a different etymological meaning but also establishes a distinct epistemological and gnoseological approach in the way studies and research on psyché are conceived and conducted: PsychoLogy is structured on the discipline of Logic, characterized by studies and research on the rational representation and classification of the universe and its governing laws.
It is based on the verifiable experimental method of Knowledge, through analytical-synthetic classification processes and logical representation of psychic information and activities.
PsychoSophia is structured on the discipline of Philosophy, which in the 20th century evolved into Human Sciences and Mind Sciences, characterized by a reflective and conceptual vision on which studies and research on the principles, rules, and conceptions of life are founded.
It is determined by the heuristic, introspective, reflective-imaginative method, through systemic-holistic representation and the ideation of symbolic concepts.
The method proposed in PsychoSophia originates from the investigative method of the GREEK PHILOSOPHERS and the introspective method used in the study of unconscious psychic processes, carried out at the beginning of the 20th century by psychoanalytic doctors SIGMUND FREUD (1895, 1899, 1901, 1913, 1915, 1915-17, 1918) and CARL GUSTAV JUNG (1909, 1914, 1928, 1928-30, 1948).
